Have you met Dr Amy Johnson?
Amy is one of my favorite psychologists.
I spoke to her last week. We talked about all sorts, including:
- Why a lot of traditional self help can leave you feeling worse
- Anxiety—Amy shares her own personal story about how she used to have severe panic attacks and how by changing her philosophy she over came this
- Bad moods—how to see them so they’re not as unpleasant
- How to balance advice we’re given with what’s right for us
- Why our habit of looking ahead can keep us stuck and how we can stop doing this
- And lots more!
You can watch the full interview here…
You can read more about Dr Amy Johnson at her website DrAmyJohnson.com
The book I talk about in the interview is her second book, Being Human: Essays on Thoughtmares, Bouncing Back, and Your True Nature.
Amy’s work is guided by Three Principles Psychology. You can learn more about the Three Principles here.
Also … and this is very cool.
If you have any questions you’d like to ask Amy—say, about how something applies to your situation—write them below. Amy says she’s happy to come back and answer a bunch in a second interview.
PS: Erm, this is my first interview. Ever. Please excuse my fumblyness.

Hi Lisa
I came across your blog, as i have been reading Amy’s for over a year now.
I enjoyed your piece where you remained in silence for a year and your interview with her just yesterday.
Am curious to read up a bit more on your philosophy/approach to life.
Would be great to hear from you.
Thanks
Karolina

Hi Karolina,
Have you downloaded my book and signed up to my newsletter? That’s probably the best way to hear more about my approach to life. You can do that in the box in the right hand column. Thanks for say hi! =)

Thank you Lisa for this, enjoyed Amy’s book too. Couldn’t have come at the right time too…just about to move out to Australia on my own, looking at packing boxes around me, the mind is doing overtime…go..stay….my feelings about the decision…I just don’t know hopefully an answer will come soon! Thanks again both
Amy
Hey Jacqui,
I hope our short discussion on not needing to see 10 steps ahead was helpful for you! Of course you can’t possibly know right now what your move will bring, and of course you don’t have to. All you’re doing today is looking at boxes. From this place, you’ll follow your inclinations and do what occurs to you to do. Tomorrow, you’ll follow your inclinations and do what occurs to you to do from that place. And on and on. Good luck in your move–enjoy the uncertainty and letting things unfold around you!

Hi there,
I think I found this video at the perfect time in my life. About 2 months ago I started having panic attacks and anxiety out of nowhere and I started seeking help right away, seeing 2 therapists at once, bought a ton of books, and googled stuff like crazy and always had a nagging feeling that doing these things were making it much worse – like instead of just sitting with it and letting it pass, I was actively seeking an answer, but I think I got my answer 🙂 Thank you so much!

You’re very welcome 🙂 Did you see this article yesterday from Dr Amy Johnson You are Far Less Stable Than You Think (and That’s Good News!)
Amy’s stuff in general is just wonderful, as you’ve already seen. Best wishes and thanks for saying hi!
