It’s the second day of the New Year, and I’m sitting up in bed in an old shirt, drinking parsley tea, remembering two nights ago at midnight.
A group of us were down at the beach flying Chinese Lanterns when my husband called out “Thank you 2012,” to which someone else responded, “Good riddance 2012!”
And then everyone laughed.
And it got me thinking – how unusual it is to hear someone say thank you and what a bad habit us human beings have to always look forward, to endlessly think about the future.
What if every year, as we were shouting out Best Wishes and Happy New Year we said loudly ‘Thank You Old Year – It’s Been Great!” And meant it?
What if we did this even on those years that were challenging and unpleasant?
For me 2012 was a year that was easy to be thankful, but it only happened like this because of all those other not so fun years. They are a huge part of the awesomeness of this year.
Thank You 2012!
