Need some calm?
Want to do 5 minutes of do-nothing meditation (DNM), every day for the next 5 days?
Five minutes a day is doable but still powerful. You might be surprised what a difference it makes.
Do-Nothing Meditation is a great way to tap into what’s happening in your body. It gently steers you toward the next thing to do and helps you connect with you.
Whether you’ve been curious to try DNM, or you’d just like a reminder to take space this week, join me in this 5 for 5 Challenge.
If you struggle with meditation, please give this one a try. It’s a lot easier. People often tell me, “It feels like I’m cheating!”
NOTE: Please work to your comfort level. Never push beyond what feels right for you. There are times in our lives when meditation is not advisable. Have your own back. Be gentle with you. Please trust that you will gain more by stopping if that’s what feels right for you.
DAY 1: Do-Nothing Meditation (DNM)
Sit or lie down. Get comfortable. You don’t need to sit rigidly, if you need to change position go ahead and do so. Keep your eyes open, unless you’d rather keep them closed! Today’s 5-minute DNM was recorded on a rainy Sunday afternoon, sitting on the sofa, next to a gently snoring dog.
DAY 2: Outdoor DNM
Try a 5-minute do-nothing meditation, sitting outside, taking part in the weather of the day. Remember, this is just 5 minutes and can be done in between other tasks. For instance, this meditation was recorded in between cooking dinner; spuds were in the oven, butter beans were on the stove, and I had a few minutes to sit in the sun before starting on the rest of the meal.
DAY 3: End-of-Day DNM
Turn off your phone, put down your book, and give yourself a stimulation-free end to the day. Remember, with this technique, you don’t need to control your thoughts. Of course, you are in control so if you ever feel uncomfortable feel free to redirect them. Today’s meditation was recorded lying down on my bed, dark outside, in the final throes of the day.
DAY 4: Work-Break DNM
Taking a few minutes out of a busy day is a great way to get focused and feel balanced. Somedays it may seem impossible, or a waste of time, but the more you do it, the more you see your productivity grow.
DAY 5: General DNM
It’s very easy to think we are doing this wrong. Our mind will chat about all sorts of things. You might think that your mind should be quiet, or empty, but this is not usually the case. Accept whatever it is that your mind says, you don’t have to believe it, of course. But try not to judge it. They’re just thoughts, coming and going through you.
